God has not given us the Spirit of Fear

6:26 PM

Last weekend, I had a bbq  at my home with friends and family. The first guest to arrive, was a long time family friend that I have known since I was a child, in the third grade. When she arrived at my door, before entering she wanted to know where my dogs were. I assured her that they were both in a secure place. One was in the yard, the other was in the basement. After she came in, throughout our conversation, when she would hear the dogs bark, she assured me that if the dogs came into the house, she was going to leave. I, in turn, assured her that if the dogs did come into the home, it would not be intentional.

Before I continue, let me explain. For over twelve years this woman was the happy owner of a beautiful, but large German Shepherd and the dogs I possess are 11 lb and 17 lb Yorkie Poos. Somehow or another, I hate to say, that my 18 month pup came into the house and my guest, my friend, abruptly stood up and left my home. Very apologetically, I tried to convince her to stay, but she unhappily declined and left my home, probably never to return again.

Right before my pup escaped the basement, she and I were discussing the goodness of the Lord, and I was amazed at how quickly her attitude and demeanor changed. She has a fear or phobia of dogs, no she has a fear or phobia of all animals. By no means, am I dismissing her fear, but by all means I am saying that she needs to take that thing to God in prayer. When I was a child, she never-ever stepped foot into my home, and being friends with my mother, that bothered my mom and at times put a strain on their relationship.

For my entire time knowing her, I have witnessed her attend church, bible study, prison and nursing home ministry, amongst various other Christ driven and discipleship activities. I can testify to her prayer life and strong faith that she possesses. I have also watched her decline invitations due to a home having a cat, dog, bird, or other domestic pets. But never have I heard her say that she wishes for God to deliver her from this fear. It might seem trivial, but it is not designed for us, as children of God, to live in fear, no matter what it is.

Fear is a serious, life crippling spirit, that does not come from God. For such a strong woman of faith, she never considered going to God, to be delivered? God desires to deliver us from any and every spirit that does not come from Him, it is not His will. I know people that were afraid to fly, but knew their fear was hindering their ministry of missions. Through prayer, intercession, and touching and agreeing with like-minded Saints of God, I now see those same people flying all across the world to proclaim the salvation of Jesus Christ.

God has given us a purpose and there is no room for fear of anything in that purpose. Frankly, I was hurt and offended when she left my home, so abruptly; but she did warn me. To this day, I have no idea how my lil' pup escaped the basement...none whatsoever. What I do know is, God does allow certain things to happen for a reason. And after she left my home, and my bewilderment subsided, I prayed for her. My prayer is that God gives her total deliverance from every fear, from every childhood trauma, and wicked thoughts of the past. I pray that she is set free, and will live the abundant life that is intended for her.

If you are faced with a fear, that is my prayer for you, as well. It doesn't matter what it is. Some hold to a fear of change, others are fearful of losing people, many are afraid of walking in the call of God. Every fear and stronghold of the enemy must be completely broken over your life; that is the will of God. Pray, believe, and hold to faith that God will change your spirit to that of power, boldness, and resilience. "For God has not given us a spirit of fear; but of power, love, and a sound mind." - 2 Timothy 1:7
